Welcome to Glebe Floorball Club
Good start to the new year
31th January 2010
A well deserved win last weekend versus the Southern Swingers by 15-5.
The match was quite even for two periods and we went into the 3rd with a lead of only 5-3.... Needless to say we finally found the net after two periods of constantly hitting the post or being stopped with great saves by their goalkeeper.
Christmas and New Years Break!
20th December 2009
We played our last game of the year on the weekend and it turned out to be quite a dramatic game. It all started with us not having any substitutes for the entire game, this meant that we had to play very defensive and rely on counter attacks.
Our tactics worked well as we were up by 5-1 at the beginning of the 3rd period. We then slowed down, started getting tired and let in two quick goals before Jari got a breakaway... Unfortunately he couldn't reach the ball before the goal keeper and ended up falling badly, cutting up his chin in the process. We finished the last 3min of the game by playing 5 on 4 but managed to hold on to our lead and win.
Well played guys, now make sure you all enjoy the festive season and we'll see you all back next year on the 30th January against the Swingers!!
Revised Draw and Training schedule and fees
18th December 2009
There's been a few changes to the draw due to the venue not being available on the 9th of Jan 2010. This means that we will have a very long break for Christmas and New Years as our first game in the new year wont be until the 30th of Jan.
Also, there are some news regarding Marrickville training. Instead of paying per training we know have the option of paying a lump sum every quarter and save some money that way.
For more info regarding details and costs see the NSWFA Website.
One more game before the Christmas Break!
6th December 2009
4 games so far, 3 wins and one draw...
We've had a good season so far with wins over Bondi, Blue Tongues, Red Bellies and a draw versus the Northern Beaches. Just one more game to go on the 19th of Dec before the Chrismas & New Years break.
Elite Series 2009/2010
2nd November 2009
A new season has started and started well!
We had our first game this last Saturday and we started off by beating Bondi Raptors 11-2. We were up by 6-0 after the first one and that was pretty much it. Period 2 and 3 did not contain as many goals but as always against Bondi, it was still a tough game.
Glebe FBC is looking for new players!
26st October 2009
We're currently looking for new players to join our team!
Since we've lost quite a few players recently (players leaving the country and also going to some of the recently created teams Wollongong and Red Bellies) it has left us with a thin squad.
If you live in Sydney (or if you will be here for at least 6 months) and want to play some floorball, click here to contact us and we'll get back to you as soon as we can.
Glebe FBC wins NBO 2009!
28th September 2009
After too many "close calls" and disapointments, we finally got everything right and brough home the Northern Beaches Open 2009 Trophy!
During the Pool stage we beat Bondi, Canberra and Wollongong before the semi-finals against the "new" team Blue Tounge Swingers. The Grand Final was then played against the Storybridge FC from Queensland which was a tough and even match which we managed to win by 4-2.
Well played guys!!

Another quarter final loss at the AFO '09
13th July 2009
The tournament is over and the result was so so...
In the first day of the group stages we started with a loss against the Swingers and a won against Bondi Rsptors. On our second day we drew Pakenham Squishees, won against Newcastle 2 and ended with a loss against the Pirates.
We ended up 3rd in our group and got to play the Northern Beaches in the quarter final... for the 2nd year running. It was a tough even game but once more the Northern Beaches managed to finish on top with a 6-3 win.
NB Stingrays are the Champions!
28th March 2009
It was a tough Grand Final, Northern Beaches took the lead and managed to extend it to 0-3 before we started our comeback. At the end of the game we were under by two, took out our goalkeeper and managed to score another goal before Stingrays finalized the score to 4-6.
We've had a good season with a few up and downs including a few unexpected losses but we managed to come back in the end and it was almost enough!
We'll be back next year...
We're in the Grand Final
21st March 2009
Glebe will play in this years Elite Series Grand Final against the Northern Beaches Stingrays. This season we've played three games against them with one win and two losses. It's now time for another win...
We managed to win the Semi-Final against the Southern Swingers after a very close game. We were up by two after the first period but by the end of the game we were one goal behind. We managed to equalize and when the game ended in a draw penaties decided the winner with a great performance by Matt in goals.
Final Result was 2-1 after penalty shots...
Grand Final - 16:30 - Glebe FBC vs Northern Beaches Stingrays
Semi-Finals have been decided!
12th March 2009
The Northern Beaches ended up on top of the table which gave them the option of chosing their Semi-Final opponent. As they selected Bondi we will play the Southern Swingers. Our record against the Swingers this season is two wins and one loss.
The Semi-Finals will be played on March the 21st:
Semi-Final 1 - 09:15 - Glebe FBC vs Southern Swingers
Semi-Final 2 - 11:00 - Northern Beaches Stingrays vs Bondi Raptors
Let's make sure we make this one a good one.
A win against the Ninjas
14th February 2009
It feels good to win once more...
The last few weeks have been a bit disapointing with loses against Bondi and the Northern Beaches. We're now only
three rounds away from the play-offs and we will play Sydney Blue Tongues in two of those rounds.
One win, one loss...
31st January 2009
The season is back to normal again.
We've had two games since the break. First we had a great game against the Southern Swingers which we ended up winning even though we were missing a regular goalkeeper. Unfortunately we followed this up with our first lost against Bondi Raptors this season.
Xmas Break
15th December 2008
Christmas is here and that means that we will have a short break.
Our next game in the NSW Elite Series is on the 17th of Jan 2009 against the Southern Swingers. Training in Marrickville will also take a short break after tomorrows training and will resume on Tuesday the 13th of January 2009.
Enjoy your holidays guys and see you next year!!
Glebe FBC making headlines!
9th December 2008
This month, we made it to the Fuji Xerox's Staff Newsletter.
The article is based on interviews with Janne and Amaru and also mentions Kimmo and Jari as all four are employed by the company.
And even though they got the website address wrong, it's still a good article.
Best game of the year so far!
7th December 2008
The game against the Northern Beaches was the best game of the season so far... It was a tough game at times, a few penalty min were handed out to each side but in the end, we managed to stay ahead and won the game with 8-5.
We are now level with the NB Stingrays in the table by points, we're only behind because of our goal difference.
A good win after a tough game!
8th November 2008
After our last weekend against the Northern Beaches it's always nice to come back with a win. UNSW Ninjas put up a good fight and the game was intense up until the last second but we managed to snag the win.... this time!
One round - One win!
25th October 2008
It's always good to start the season with a win!
We were missing a few key players today in Matthew, Jaakko and Alan but we managed to pull it off and beat Bondi with 8-3. Player of the day must be Andrew with his 3 goals and one assist in one game - Well done!
NSW Elite Series 2008/2009
20th October 2008
The schedule for this years Elite Series is here and our first game will be this saturday at 11.45 against Bondi Raptors.
NBO 2008 Semi-Final Loss!
12th October 2008
Another tournament has come and gone.
We started the tournament by winning our first pool game against Sydney Swingers with 6-1, moved on to crush the Weston Creek Pirates with 16-0 and won our pool by beating the Blue Bulls with 9-2.
We were then faced with the Melbourne team, Vikings FC, which proved to be too good for us. We had a good few chances and the game was close with a 1-2 score deep into the third period. We were forced to attack at the end which tired us down and we allowed the Vikings to extend their lead to a final score of 2-5.
Strengthened by their Semi-Final win against us, Vikings FC smashed Sydney Swingers in the Grand Final with 10-1 to become this years NBO champion!
The Draw for the NBO 2008 is here!!
7th October 2008
We will start by playing games against the Southern Swingers, Pirates and the Blue Bulls this Saturday with a 9am start. You can download the draw here.
Glebe Wins Winter Tournament 2008!!
10th September 2008
What a tournament it's been, first we win all the 12 games during the season and then we win the Grand Final in style. It was an exiting game to wrap up the season with, Bondi managed to keep up with us for 2 periods, but in the 3rd they had no chance!
After being up by two goals in the 1st period we found ourselves behind by one after the 2nd, a very unusual situation in this tournament. Luckily we got ourselves together and managed to score 2 goals in quick succesion in the first minute of the 3rd period. The rest of the 3rd period was ours, but the end result of 8-5 still shows that it was an exiting game.
Well played guys!
The Winter Tournament is coming to an end...
3rd September 2008
12 games played and 12 games won....
What can we say, It's been a good tournament so far, we've won every single game and scored more goals than other teams combined, good job guys!
Only one more game left, the important final against Bondi Raptors.
The 2008 AFO champions have been decided!
16nd July 2008
It’s been a great tournament; we had a rocky start with a plane that was missed, we played some good games, had a shock loss against the Cobras in their only win and drew the finalists, Spartans FC. In the Quarter Final against the Northern Beaches we fought well in a very even match. In the end the Northern Beaches managed to score with 2min to go off the game and even though we had some close calls after we pulled our goalie we couldn’t quite catch up!
Fresh from their recent victory in the Salming Eastern Elite Series, the Northern Beaches Stingrays are again victorious after beating the Spartans FC in a thrilling final. The Stingrays managed to go through the competition as the only unbeaten team and even though two players received match penalties in the final, forcing the team to play 5 against 3 for 5min, they came out victorious.
In the Women’s division NTUC FC managed to win a close game against the WA Emus to make sure that a Singaporean team now has won the title two years in a row.
5th Straight Win!
2nd July 2008
Glebe is on a roll in the Sydney Winter Competition 2008.
Five games and five victories so far. In the last two games we've managed to score more than 10 goals (almost 20 against Eels) per game and have now reached 50 goals!
Let's try and take this form with us down to Melbourne for the AFO 2008!
NB Stingrays win Salming Final!
17th June 2008
What a final it has been to the first interstate series. Northern Beaches prevailed in a highly dramatic best-of-three win that needed to go the distance and then some! After losing the first game 3:6 and then hammering Beaches 7:1 in the second it certainly looked like the minor premiers Bondi would bring it home. In the final game however they surrended the lead 3 times in a 7all draw. With one win each and a draw it went straight to penalty shoot out, where Northern Beaches Stingrays made it count to secure the first Salming Elite Series trophy!
In the play off for third Glebe and SBT batteled it out with lots of awesome goals to admire. Glebe FBC however scored a few more to win in 2 games 8:6 and 12:7.
Congratulations to all the teams. It has certainly been a good tournament and a good start to this format. The aim for next season is to build this to an at least 8 team comp. In Dural we have the capacity of two courts and we should encourage teams from Central Coast, Newcastle, Wollongong and maybe a second Canberra team to join the comp.
Salming Grand Final
11th June 2008
We've got our grand final and play-off for third, which will both take place on June 14!
In a best-of-three semifinals series it was excepted that the two favorites Bondi and Glebe would prevail. However NB stingrays managed to turn their rather average season around qualifying for the grandfinal by beating Glebe 10:1 and 10:5 in two games. The other semi final saw Bondi needing to go over 3 games! SBT managed to upset the minor premiers and inflicting their first loss after having won something like 20 consequtive games (Michael please confirm)! In the end however the more experienced team managed to win and qualify for the grand final against NB Stingrays, which of course is the rematch of the Sydney Series grand final. Glebe will take on SBT in a play-off for third.
The trophy will be handed out to the winning team directly after the decisive game on court.
Winter Competition 2008
26th May 2008
The Sydney Floorball Winter Comp will commence Tuesday Night May 27
The format will be the same as last year:
- 4 on 4
- Players can play both games and play for other teams etc if short
- Full size goals
- 3 x 12 minute periods
- 1 x ref
- Approx 15 rounds plus finals
- Team fees ($35 per match, about $6 per player)
Salming Series Semi Time
13th May 2008
All 8 rounds have been played and despite the late comeback from Blue Bulls FC, the winner of this year's Salming Series will have to be fought out between the 4 Sydney teams. The forfeit round and deduction of 4 points was too much to make up unfortunately. However would they have turned up and lost both games that day, they would still have qualified, so I hope this is and stays a one-off forfeit. It's clearly not worth it as you can see.
Unbeaten through the entire series and with that minor premiers are Bondi Raptors, who will play 4th placed Sydney Blue Tongues in a best of 3 semi final. The other semi final will be between 2nd placed Glebe FBC and Northern Beaches Stingrays who finished third on the ladder.
Eligible to play semis:
Before we started we set the rules to be that players needed to play 4 games to be eligible to play, which was fair if there were 6 teams and we had 10 games. As we have only played 8 rounds, we felt that 4 games is quite high and reduced this to 2 games to be eligible to play. I have gone through the score sheets and based on that created the score sheets for all semis. All players that have played more than two games are featured on them and are therefore eligible to play the semis. Please check and let me know if you have any issues with the attached.
Disciplinary commission:
We looked at one incident in the NBS vs. SBT game and as a result have suspended Johan Sandahl of Northern Beaches for an intentional slash against the body of opposition player Glen Upton. He will therefore miss the first semi final game, but will be able to play the second or third game should there be a third game.
Semi-final rules:
- It is a best of three series to determine the finalists.
- Games will be played continuos time with the last 5minutes of the third period being effective time in all 3 games.
- Game 1&2 can result in draws, only game 3 will result in overtime and penalty shoot-out if needed (e.g. one draw and one win each or 3 draws).
- Goals scored/conceded will not affect the series being drawn (e.g Team 1 wins first game 10:1, but loses the second game 2:3 and draws the third 4:4 = drawn series and require overtime). If this is the case we will play a 5 minute golden goal overtime (effective time).
- Should there still be no result after 5 minute overtime, a penalty shoot-out will decide on the winner. For this each team will nominate 5 shooters. Should there be no result after 5 penalties, the same 5 shooters will go again, however a winner can be declared after every round (each team has one shot).
- The third game will not be played if the winner is decided after two games (e.g. 1 win and a draw or 2 wins).
The two winning teams will qualify for the grand final, which is best of 3 following the same rules. The two losing teams will play another 3 games series for a play off for the 3rd place.
Refs:
Currently trying to secure non-playing refs for the semis, however this proofs a little difficult. If we can't sort this it will be the case that one ref per team will be needed. Stay tuned.
