Good luck to our mixed team!
Glebe FBC misses out on the Finals!
17th March 2012
Glebe FBC fought on strongly to reach the finals with great wins over both The Northern Beaches (7-6) and Bondi Raptors (6-4) but unfortunately the close loss to Newcastle (4-5) came back to haunt us in the end.
This year Glebe finished 4th on the table, 2 points behind Bondi and only 3 points behind Northern Beaches who finished first. This means means no playoffs this season!
Glebe had a big change of players this season and it took a few games for the team to play as a team. We have grown stronger and stronger as the season played on which is great for the future
We'll be back for more next season!
The halfway mark!
21st January 2012
It has been a tough 5 games for the Elite team with only 2 wins so far and a 4th spot on the table. With only the 3 top teams advancing to the Finals it is vital that we win all remaining games or we risk missing out on the finals.
On a positive note, the Mixed team has played 5 games and won 5 games which is an amazing achievement from a newly established team. At the moment the Mixed team is top of the table with 4 points on the second ranked team.
Iivonen-Martiskin Shield - Year 2
12th November 2011
For the 2nd year in a row the Northern Beaches have managed to secure the Iivonen-Martiskin Shield after a 7-4 win in what was a close and entertaining game.
Glebe Mixed Team
25th October 2011
This season we have two teams playing in NSW competitions, not only is the Elite Team competing to defend their title but for the first time there is also a Glebe Mixed Team showing that our club has taken another step forward in promoting Floorball.
New Training Venue
18th October 2011
The breaking and good news is that Glebe FBC is moving!!
Glebe FBC have confirmed a new and exclusive training venue, where we can train as a Club. We have secured a 7-10 timeslot on Wednesdays, 7-8, will be social comp, and 8-10 will be Elite and Mixed teams training. The new venue is in Mascot (location of the Saturday matches). This is fantastic for the growth of Glebe FBC, and we will be the first team training on a 40X20 rink!!
Stay tuned for start dates, and more information!
Semi-Final loss at the AFO '11
10th July 2011
Glebe FBC wasn't able to defend the Australian Open title from 2010. After six convincing wins, a replay of last years Grand Final was due in the Semi with Storybridge finishing on top this time after a 3-2 win in Sudden Death!
It was a well organised and well played tournament where we showed that Glebe FBC is still one of the top teams in Australia and THE team to beat!
Thanks guys for participating this year, we'll be back again!

Glebe FBC wins the NSWFA Elite Series!!
7th May 2011
The NSW Elite series Grand Final was played on the weekend between Glebe FBC and the Northern Beaches Stingrays.
Glebe were again missing some key forwards for the match, but were not phased by this and had a few line changes with captain Jaakko moving from the Centre position into Defence.
The first period saw the Northern Beaches start very strongly, but Glebe held on and found their rythym. A saved ball that wasn't cleared found the Northern Beaches captain Scott Collings and he shot it into the top of the net. Glebe lifted their tempo, and changed up a gear and the Northern Beaches struggled to keep up with the pace. Jaakko found some space on the half court, and put the ball past the defenders and keeper, 1 - 1. Glebe again had more of the ball, and Northern Beaches looked unsure, so unsure that Tomas picked up the ball behind the net, walked around to the front looking for a pass, but found the net open and scored over the keepers shoulder to make it 2 - 1 for Glebe into the break.
Period Two and Northern Beaches were at full press, trying to work the ball forward with attack after attack while Glebe were able to hold them out. After nine and a half minute, the Northern Beaches managed to break the defence and scored 2 - 2. Glebe again lifted to the occasion, and George while running down the wrong side, turned the ball into middle and back handed a half court shot that sailed into the top corner, again the Northern Beaches were on the back foot, Glebe 3 - 2.
The third period saw Glebe wit a lot of the ball, but unable to convert on any of the shots, with the Northern Beaches defence working overtime to just stay in the game. 3 - 2, five minutes to go and the Northern Beaches calls a time out. A minute to go and The Northern Beaches gain possession and drag their keeper, 6 on 5 game. Glebe withstand holds up until 40 seconds on the clock when a bouncing ball off the referee, sees Northern Beaches find the equaliser, 3 – 3 which also turns out to be the final score.
Both teams nominate their respective penalty shooters, the Northern Beaches call and win the toss and elect to shoot first. The Glebe players line up on the side line, arm over shoulder, side by side, united together as a team, watching every save, every shot.
The penalties start and the Northern Beaches shooter Peter Winquist tries to drag the keeper who makes a full dive and stretches to save with his left hand! Glebe's Captain Jaakko Vahtola tries to drag the keeper and misses scores 0 - 0.
Northern Beaches Captain Scott Collins, tries a dummy then drags and shoots over the keeper who saves with his right arm. Glebe's George Bachrach, walks the ball in, fakes a shot, fakes a 2nd, and shoots on he third attempt to score, Glebe lead 1 - 0.
Northern Beaches Peter walks the ball in, tries a dummy and a drag to beat the keeper, Chris covers the ground quickly, and the shot goes onto his chest. Glebe's Tomas Enokkson, walks the ball in, moving left and right, drags left, brings the ball around to the right, and with the keeper beaten, misses over the top, Glebe still 1 - 0.
Northern Beaches Coach Daniel Dornak, runs the ball in, moving left right, drag to the left, brings the ball around to the covering keeper and shoots... into the side net. Glebe's Alain Trächslin brings the ball forward on the end of his stick, fakes left, fakes right, fakes left, keeper beaten and taps it in for a sure goal... Glebe wins 2 – 0 and all players run onto the court to celebrate together with Alain!
The finals are decided by a penalty shootout and Glebe win the NSWFA Elite Series competition.
The Glebe FBC team worked together to make and play out the final, with all avaliable players taking the field.
Well done team!!
Semi-Final win vs Bondi!
30th April 2011
The match was to start with the Glebe team missing some of their foward lines, and a few interesting changes by the coach filling the void with two seasoned defenders. The game plan would be structered and simple, emphasing being hungry for the match.
The first period saw Glebe weather the storm from Bondi, and with 10 shots on goal, 9 saves, Bondi were able to lead at the first break 0 - 1.
The second period saw Glebe come out looking like a hungry team and by stepping up a gear, following the game plan, and working as a team, Glebe made defence look easy and Bondi never looked as if they were going to find the net. "Fifty Gamer" Alain, swept on a loose ball in defence, took on the 3 Bond players in front of him, and sent one sailing over the Bondi goal keepers shoulder, celebrating with a fist pump and Brett Lee kick, scores level 1 - 1.
Period three, and Glebe came out knowing the stakes, but still looking like the second period team, it was their period, they were hungry and Bondi were not lookig like they were going to stop this outfit. Scores deadlocked for minutes, until a pass out wide to the Captain Jaakko, he stepped wide, created space, and put the ball in the back of the net, scores were not going to stay deadlocked for long. Glebe 2 - 1. More attacking by both sides, structured play, but Warren was able to beat 2 forwards, step around the centre and send a flat pass to the two free forwards, Amaru picked up the pass, ran down the right hand side, dragging the keeper across to pass the ball to Jason, to score into an open net - talk about team play!!!!! Glebe 3 - 1.
6 minutes to go and Bondi calls a timeout, with 4 minutes Bondi drag the keeper to play 6 on 5. Glebe's defense hunker down and tighten up the box, while holding Bondi out. With 2 minutes to go Bondi are able to find a scrappy goal into the back of the net, with Glebe having withstood shot after shot. The scores are now 3 - 2 and Bondi with a 6 on 5 power play turn the ball over in the middle at Jaakko's feet, he gains control, keeps it on the ground and sends it towards the undefended net. Glebe 4 - 2 with 30 seconds remaining. Bondi loose the face off, and are unable to get possesion to drag their keeper. Glebe hold posession and hold onto that position into the finals. Glebe win 4 - 2, with Glebe's defence being surpreme, and 20 shots on goal 18 saves!!
It was a great team effort, and all players stepped up and played at the level of floorball that finals should be played at.
Grand Final game next week against the Northern Beaches, 1 v 2 rematch.
Final Round Game
11th April 2011
Glebe Played their final round game against Newcastle on Saturday.
Glebe started the game with only 2 subs, and the game started out with lots of end to end floorball, with Glebe getting the run in and ending the period with a 7 - 3 lead!!
The second period was again end to end, with lots of break aways, and an old keeper at full stretch, missed opportunities at the other end, and we were able to end the period with a 9 - 7 lead.
The third period was always going to be hard, Newcastle needed a win to make the playoffs, and they came out hard, and continued to push, slowly chipping away, and leveling to 9 - 9. With a time out, Glebe were able to find some focus, and create space to get Jaakko the ball on the half line, and he was able to score a Captains goal, and send it into the top corner over the keepers shoulder, Glebe 10 - 9, still determined, Newcastle pushed and were able to find the 10 - 10 equaliser, but Glebe were able to hold them out and final score 10 - 10.
Glebe has all but secured the 2nd spot for the playoffs, with both 3rd and 4th one game behind, one game in hand to play, but needing to win by 30 points to push us down the ladder.
Playoffs start on the 30th of April!
Iivonen-Martiskin Shield
26th March 2011
The game against Northern Beaches on Friday night was hard, it took it's toll, more on some players than others, and we wish Adam a speedy recovery from his PCL injury.
The game was tight an intensity was high from the begining with lots of pressure from both sides, and defense working to keep shots out, or interfere with shots, one mistake in the first period, and we went down 0-1.
The second period was tighter still, with 3 two minute penalties, we were unable to get a shot on and find the net. A 3 on 1 breakaway left the defense and goalie stuck out with 10 seconds to go, and NBS were able to take a 0-2 lead into the 3rd.
Not letting their heads drop, or attitude waiver, Glebe started to push and open up some of the game, Glebe were able to control the play and score, twice in 3 minutes, leveling the score 2-2. Another 10 minutes of solid play by both teams, and an unfortuante deflection put NBS back in front 3-2 with 4 minutes to go. Pressure on, but Glebe were unable to wrestle the ball form their NBS opponents, and final score was 3-2 to NBS. NBS hold the Iivonen-Martiskin Shield... for now.
Women's National Team Appointment
15th March 2011
Glebe FBC is proud to announce that Chris Bojarski has been appointment by the AFA for the role of Assistant Coach & Team Manager for the Womens National Team who are now in the lead up to selections for WFC 2011 in Switzerland in December.
Chris has a long history in floorball, and brings a wealth of experience to the coaching team. He was for many years Vice President of the Victorian Floorball Association, playing with Spartans FC before moving to Sydney and Glebe FBC.
We wish you all the best in this new role Chris!
Game vs Scorpions
12th March 2011
This last weekend we played against the Gong Scorpions, who unveiled their new team shirts and wore black shorts. But that didn't stop us from playing our game. We went into the game with 4 forwards, and 2 defenders, up against a 11 player team. From the onset we were under full press, as they thought they may tire us throughout the game and stay with us.
Ball movement was the key, and for the first period it was the Tomas and Alain show, with Tomas getting a hat trick, and Alain supplying two great passes to end with two assists!!. First period 3-1, with an unusual defensive error, by the Glebe Unit.
The second period, was more ball movement, and a more solid coming out of defense, which lead to some great passing and a 5 - 0 period.
The third period was following up on the same, with Jaakko taking on their largest player (after wining the free hit, and the offender getting a 2 minute penalty!!) and we were able to control the ball for the 2 minutes, and score a cheeky goal off a rebound from the keeper, to get the momentum up, and Alain and Jaakko both securing their hat tricks. All players were involved in all scoring aspects of the game, and another solid period 5 - 2, with all players getting tired in the last couple of minutes.
All 13 goals, came with 13 assists, so a great team effort, and great work from Amaru in the net, as there were quite a lot of shots on, as it was a very end to end match. Andrew 3pts, (2g, 1a), Adam 2 pts (2a), Tomas 5pts (3g, 2a), Chris 3pts (2g, 1a), Jaakko 8pts (3g, 5a), Alain 5pts (3g, 2a).
Well done all, good job!!
Another successful BBQ Fundraiser!
6th March 2011
Our second BBQ fundraiser was held this Saturday at Bunnings. This time we didn't feel the lead up stress of "have you got this?" or "do you think we have enough of this?"(seasoned campaigners I suppose) and yet again the weather wasn't kind to us, but soldier on we did!!
We sold plenty of drinks, sausages, break and onion plus all the sauces and accordind to Chris, were able to determine the the "Australian" method of BBQ works better than the Swiss ;)
We were almost able to reach the same amount from the first time around (although we sold less sausages this time), so all in all, another successful day for the Glebe Floorball Club.
Thanks to all those that could spare some time for the day, it was truly appreciated!
Glebe FBC is on top of the table!
26th Feb 2011
Glebe FBC is back on a winning track after last Fridays win vs Redbellies and currently holding the first spot in the series with only 4 games to go.
Iivonen/Martiskin Shield Game

Glebe and Northern Beaches will now be playing off for the Iivonen/Martiskin Shield during the Elite Series. This game will always be scheduled as the first Glebe vs NBS game of the Elite Series. The game is to recognize the efforts of Janne and Rainer in a number of roles, namely the effort they have put into both of these teams/NSW Association/AFA. As Glebe and NBS have a healthy rivarly, we have added an extra element of this with the addition of this Shield. The winning team will have the bragging rights for the year, and also hold the shield for the year. I hope that you can all get behind the team when we play, and this game will be an exceptionally hard/physical but fair game in which we plan to win. Please invite as many people as you can to watch and experience what is going to be an exciting game, not only is it between two premier teams of the league, but also a top of the table challenge!!
Our first loss in 23 games
20th Feb 2011
Glebe went down to Wollongong, 5 - 3, due to difficulties in getting a full team on the court and underestimating the opposition.
It was a difficult round, a tough physical game that included a few injuries. The most difficult part of it was to feel and experience Glebe FBC's first loss in almost 10 months, and 23 games of floorball.
We're back to 0 again, let's build another streak!
22 straight wins!
12th Feb 2011
A good start to the year after 2 good wins vs Sydney Blue Tongues and Wollongong FC to secure 22 straight wins in all competitions. Also, welcome to Tomas and Faian who have joined the ranks of Glebe and notched up their first wins with the team!!
