Australian Floorball Open 2010
May 19th to 22nd - Unanderra Hockey Stadium, Wollongong, NSW

Glebe FBC are the Australian Floorball Champions!!

7 games = 7 wins with 47-7 goal difference

During the group stages we had 3 easy wins and one tough one over Bondi. For the Quarterfinals we beat the WA team the Redbacks before taking on Newcastle in the Semis and getting payback for the semi final lost during the Elite Series. In the final we once again came across Story Bridge from QLD and once more we emerged victorious!

It was a great team effort by all the guys in the team, we had the best defence throughout the tournament which made it easier for our offence to succeed!

NSW Elite Series 2009/2010

WinnersNorthern Beaches Stingrays

For the second year in a row the Northern Beaches Stingrays are the NSWFA Elite Series Champions.

The Grand Final was a exciting and very tight game, the Newcastle Cobras started really well and were halfway though the game up by 3 goals. The Northern Beaches have played in many finals and have the experience and managed to make a comeback and even have the lead in the end. With 8 seconds left of the game the Newcastle Cobras managed to score the equalizer and forced a penalty shootout where the Stingrays proved to tought to beat.

In the match over 3rd place Southern Swingers beat Glebe FBC with 9-4.

Northern Beaches Open 2009

WinnersGlebe FBC

After a number of years of being "almost" there we now have another great throphy again!!

I believe the official tournament report said it the best:

"I don’t think many people would argue that the best team of the weekend lifted the trophy. If you are in doubt, just check out the attached stats.

Best point scorer, MVP of the tournament, best defence, most amount of shots on opponents goals fired, the list goes on.

Also their only real challenge came in the actual grand final game against an also formidable Storybridge outfit that toppled the organising team in a 1 goal come from behind win in the semis. A successful revenge for the lost grand final in 2007 against Northern Beaches Stingrays.

The grand final was a very entertaining affair with Glebe taking an early two goal lead. But just as they turned a deficit in their semi final, the visitors from Brisbane pulled back to 2:2 half way through the match. But this is when Jaakko Vahtola started warming up and sealed the win for Glebe with two spectacular goals to add two more to his impressive tally of 27 points from 5 games!

He was a deserving MVP for the tournament and proofed unstoppable for all teams."

NSW Elite Series 2008/2009

WinnersNorthern Beaches Stingrays

It was a tough Grand Final, Northern Beaches took the lead and managed to extend it to 0-3 before we started our comeback. At the end of the game we were under by two, took out our goalkeeper and managed to score another goal before Stingrays finalized the score to 4-6.

We've had a good season with a few up and downs including a few unexpected losses but we managed to come back in the end and it was almost enough!

We'll be back next year...
